Our Story
I, Methu Menuwara, have roots in the beautiful country Sri Lanka (the Pearl of the Indian Ocean), and have given help to underprivileged children – first through my music and now giving financial support with the help of my parents and their friends. I feel that every child deserves a chance to have a good education, nutrition and health.
Children’s Eye Clinic:
Healthy vision is one of the most important parts for the development of a child. As a family with childhood vision problems, we know early diagnosis and the right glasses will make a massive change in a child's life. However, there are many children who do not have access to opticians or have a free eye test. We organised a few eye clinics for children where we provided free eyeglasses and we wish to continue...
Free Lunch Programme:
When Sri Lanka hit an unprecedented financial crisis, a vast majority of parents could not afford a balanced meal. Therefore, we provided lunch to 70 girls and boys in a rural primary school in Anuradhapura, every school day from August 2022 – March 2023. We are continuing this as we believe a healthy balanced meal is essential for a child's physical and mental development.....
Gratitude Scholarship Fund:
Since May last year, we have been sponsoring 10 schoolchildren, giving them 5000 rupees every month for stationery and other expenses. Most of them have single parents or are living with guardians due to their parents’ unfortunate circumstances. During video meetings, I was very fortunate to see the children’s happy faces.....
Our Aims:
- Continue current projects and provide more access, double the Scholarship grant and help at least 100 kids at once.
- Our extended hometown, Kegalle, has a teaching hospital, but in emergencies, to provide them specialist treatments, ill children need to be transferred to Colombo or Kandy, which is far far away. As a result, my aunt, Vihara, barely survived when she was very little. This story hit my heart and one day, with everyone’s help, I would like to build a children’s unit with modern intensive care facilities...........
